June is proving to be an amazing month of activity for me in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am honored to have two shows and be presenting a workshop. Make sure to check out my new work #HelloMyNameWas, a video from my digital memoir at Currents: The Santa Fe International New Media Festival. Currents opens June 10 and runs until June 26. As part of Currents, I join some amazing talent to present a workshop on preservation of media on Saturday, June 11. Finally, I am grateful to join the FantaSe Fest, a one day event on June 18. For FantaSe, I was awarded a New Mexico Public Arts grant that will help me actualize an interactive projection cube. See below for details and I hope to see you there! www.ethanbach.com

#HelloMyNameWas is part of Bodhi Life: A Transgender New Media Artist’s Digital Memoir.
As a Transgender person, I was taught that I should have shame about my history; I shouldn’t tell anyone my birth name and I should appear as though I have had the same gender experience my entire life. I had gone so far in upholding these ideas, in perpetuating my feeling of shame, as to digitally alter past photos of myself to flatten my chest and shorten my hair. Half of my life I have been out as Transgender and living in a way where I feel more comfortable in my own skin, but this expression does not negate the first half of my life. I have a right to be proud of my entire existence. Bodhi Life is about having ownership over my whole life and all of my experiences and to encourage others to do the same.

Projection Cube
FantaSe Fest 2016@ DeVargas Park
H.U.M.A.N. is an interactive projection cube that reflects the current state of human evolution. In these modern times of climate change, cultural revolutions, and unveiling of corruption the landscape is constantly changing. H.U.M.A.N. plays on the notion that suffering is part of the human experience and that it is through release of our attachments that we find human connection and compassion. H.U.M.A.N. allows the viewers to interact with strangers and share consciousness through the art of interactive display.
Special thanks to the team at Alt Ethos Ltd. for technical support and New Mexico Arts for the funding to make this possible.
